Cass County COA plans events, activities

The Cass County COA has planned a number of activities for next week at its Dowagiac location, Front Street Crossing, at 227 S. Front St.

Monday, Oct. 24

Cardio challenge

8 to 8:45 a.m.

This low-impact, high-energy class will challenge participants’ entire bodies with cardio, strength training and balance exercises. Mat exercises are also incorporated for a well-rounded workout. Cost is $25 per month or $5 for walk-ins.

Vim & Vigor Transitions

9 to 9:45 a.m.

This workout is both in and out of a chair and focuses on heart health, strength, flexibility and balance. Cost is $25 per month or $5 for walk-ins.

S.E.A.T. (Sit, exercise and tone)

10 to 10:45 a.m.

This chair-based class is great for anyone concerned with balance and stability. The focus is on maintaining flexibility and strength. Cost is $25 per month or $5 for walk-ins.

Tai chi

11 a.m.

Guests can improve their posture and their strength of hips, thighs and core with this gentle mind body exercise. This program is good for arthritis, blood pressure and sense of well-being. Cost is $20 per month.

Bingo

12:45 p.m.

Follow the lunch hour by playing for fun and prizes. Cost is $2.25.

Champagne Flutes

1:30 p.m.

People who used to play the flute are getting their instrument out of their attics and joining the new Champagne Flutes which is  forming at Front Street Crossing. The group meets on Mondays and will practice for playing at nursing homes and other venues. For more information, people should call 445-8110 and ask for Connie.

Creating Confident Caregivers

5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This six-week class, supported by Region IV Area Agency on Aging, is for caregivers of people with memory loss. Care for family members is available free of charge for attendees. Ask for details while registering.

Tuesday, Oct. 25

Yoga

10 to 11:15 a.m.

Yoga may be practiced to enhance overall health, to improve balance, to heal and prevent injuries, to strengthen muscles and to open the body for meditation.

Color Your World (watercolor class)

12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Instructor Roy Hruska will teach the basics of watercolor. Participants will create a piece of artwork to take home; similar to a wine and canvas event minus the wine. October’s watercolor is “Bluebird.” Cost is $15. Registration is required one week in advance.

Local attorneys volunteer time to answer legal questions. Appointments are required.

Euchre is one of the most popular card clubs.

Classical Foundations in Drawing and Painting

This four-week session works on still life, landscape and more with the use of acrylic paints, pastels and pencil. Instructed by Sharron Ott Bartemio. Cost is $60.
