Good weather helps make third Fall Festival a success

For a change, the weather did not factor into the Cassopolis Fall Festival.

In previous years, festival organizers had to deal with windy, cold and wet conditions, which limited the number of visitors to downtown Cassopolis.

But with partly cloud and warm weather last Saturday, the festival drew a variety of vendors and guests
said Cassopolis Main Street President Ben Anderson.

“It went excellent,” Anderson said. “The weather was great for the first time, the vendors were happy when I spoke to them and the people who were here all seemed to be having a good time.”

Anderson said that the logistics worked out, such as the hayride between the village hall, where most of the vendors were located, and the Pioneer Log Cabin Museum, where cider and donuts were being served, there was a pumpkin patch and residents had a chance to purchase a brick for the Main Street Committee’s seating project.

The talent show, sponsored by Midwest Energy drew 12 participants and Anderson said there were participants from a variety of ages that competed.

Seth Kaline took first place, while Susan McGrew finished second in the talent show.

Patricia Steven Hobbs was the winner of the Main Street Brick Bingo competition. Hobbs won a memorial brick, which will be placed on the path leading to the seating area near the pavilion.

“Rick (Drews) said he had a great time putting that together,” Anderson said. “When I watched the talent show there were tons of people around watching the show and having a good time. I thought maybe it was just going to be little kids, but there were adults in the talent show too. It was impressive stuff. I hope that continues.”

The Cassopolis Main Street Committee is in the process of deciding when to hold monthly meeting.

The meetings are open to the public. Anyone interested in attending the meetings should check the group’s Facebook fan page for more information.
