The 2016 Edwardsburg homecoming will be one for the books.

Not only did Edwardsburg win its homecoming game against Three Rivers 38-0 to improve to 8-0 on the year and lock up a share of the Wolverine Conference championships, but the Army Golden Knights also performed prior to the game Oct. 14.

Parents, family and friends began arriving as Leo Huffman Field long before the gates were scheduled to open for the Golden Knights’ performance.

More than 5,000 spectators crammed into the field to watch the performance and many of them stayed to cheer the Eddies to victory.

The Golden Knights were brought to Edwardsburg thanks to the efforts of Edwardsburg Superintendent Sherm Ostrander and his wife Beverly, as well as EHS alum Scott Duck.

The Edwardsburg Athletic Boosters helped provide lodging for the parachute team, while Campbell Ford in Niles provided transportation for the Golden Knights.

During halftime activities, senior Emma Nelson was crowned homecoming queen.

Nelson, who is a member of the Edwardsburg volleyball team as well as student council, SADD and National Honor Society, is the daughter of Rolf and Kendra Nelson.

Katie Bellaire, daughter of Ron and Kim Bellaire, as well as Hana Dantone, daughter of Guy and Susan Dantone, were the other two senior queens.

Caitlin Ziesmer, daughter of Jason and Claire Ziesmer, was the freshman queen; Cassidy Martenson, daughter of Nick Canal and Vanessa Martenson, was the sophomore queen; and McKenna Tinkham, daughter of Bobby and Angie Tinkham, was the junior queen.

The junior class won the float competition, while the freshman class second, the sophomore class third and the seniors fourth.
