Animal shelter celebrating Halloween

Berrien County Animal Control is hosting a special Halloween party for furry friends.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Attendees can bring an animal safe treat or toy for the animals and then trick-or-treat around the shelter.

There will be pumpkin decorating, games, a costume contest (for children 12 and under) and treats.

During the Halloween party, veterans and seniors 55 and older can adopt a pet for free. The minimal cost for adoptions are $10 for spayed or neutered cats and $25 for spayed or neutered dogs.

Donations are always welcome at the Berrien County Animal Shelter. Some of the most needed items include paper towels, bleach, Dawn dish soap, non-clumping kitty litter, blankets and food for the dogs/puppies and cats/kittens.

The Berrien County Animal Control Facility, located at 1300 Euclid Ave. in Benton Harbor, recently extended its hours. Current operating hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The animal shelter can be reached at (269) 927-5648.
