Beckwith Theatre Company presents ‘Blithe Spirit’ next month

DOWAGIAC — The Beckwith Theatre will present its production of “Blithe Spirit,” a comedy by Noel Cöward, from Nov. 11-13 and Nov. 18-20.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. for Friday and Saturday performances, and 2 p.m. for Sunday shows. Tickets cost $10, and can be purchased at the box office during the night of the performance.

“Blithe Spirit” is about a fussy, cantankerous novelist, Charles Condomine, who is haunted by the ghost of his late first wife, the clever and insistent Elvira, after she is called up by a visiting “happy medium.” With Charles’ current wife Ruth added to the mix, the clash of personalities (worldly and other) wreaks havoc in Cöward’s smash comedy hit.

The Beckwith production is sponsored by Woodfire Trattoria and Hale’s Hardware. An opening night wine reception is sponsored by Fenn Valley Vineyards of Fenn Valley, Michigan.

The show is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

Gospel trio to perform at First Christian Church Oct. 30

DOWAGIAC — Local gospel trio Souls Harbor will perform for parishioners and visitors at Dowagiac’s First Christian Church during the chapel’s 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, Oct. 30.

Souls Harbor is a southern gospel trio based out of southeast Michigan, with Ron Brown serving as the baritone, his son David as tenor and his daughter-in-law Joy as the lead singer. The group is also joined by David and Joy’s two sons, Ronnie and Troy, who sing and play piano.

Souls Harbor has shared its music at venues throughout the country, including God and Country Theatre in Branson, Missouri and The Biblical Times Theatre in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The group has also appeared at the last two years at the National Quartet Convention, southern gospel music’s largest annual event.

“We love to laugh and have a good time but at the end of the day, we want folks to know that we have been to church,” David said.

First Christian Church is located at 121 Oak St. in Dowagiac.
