Annual CROP Walk provides many benefits

Once per year, Cass County area churches joins forces to help fight hunger.

And they need your help to do it.

The annual CROP Walk will be hosted at the Cass County COA Sunday. Churches are looking for local groups and individuals to join them on the track at the Lowe Center in Cassopolis.

We cannot not think of a better way to help fight hunger while doing a little something for yourself as well.

The track is seven-tenths of a mile and while you are walking around it to raise funds to help support not only the Church World Services, but local food pantries, you can also get some fresh air and exercise.

In addition to the health benefits of spending a little time on the track, people can leave the event knowing they have helped people not only right here at home, but in underdeveloped countries in which organized fundraisers like the CROP walk do not exist, or are not as profitable.

Last year’s walk raised more than $6,500. While 75 percent goes to the Church World Services, the remaining money will be split between the Edwardsburg Food Pantry, Marcellus Food Pantry, Feed My Sheep, First Christian and Action Ministries. Every little bit helps in the fight against hunger, both globally and locally, and we encourage everyone who is able to do their part to contribute to the solution.

Fall weather has descended upon southwest Michigan, so expect cool temperatures Sunday, but do not let that stop you from making the short trip to the Cass County COA and assisting with this worthy cause.
