Niles gets revenge with sweep of Lakeview

The Niles varsity volleyball team earned a measure of revenge Wednesday night.

The Vikings, 14-1, defeated host Battle Creek Lakeview to avenge their lone loss of the season, which came in the season-opening Gull Lake Blue Devil Invitational.

Niles rolled to an impressive 25-11, 25-27 and 25-17 win over Lakeview in a SMAC match.

“Ever since that one loss early in the season, they have been completely focused on improving and being prepared for our next shot at them,” said Niles coach Jenny Nate. “Every player on our team has given 100 percent at practice for the past week working on blocking, defense, and covering. Their efforts showed on the court tonight with another conference win.”

Bella Rasler and Lexi Smith turned in big matches for the Vikings.

Rasler had 12 kills, six points, eight digs and a block, while Smith had eight kills, eight points, 10 digs and a block.

Carly Barton finished the night with 23 assists, 13 points, four aces, three digs and two blocks.

Niles is back in action Saturday as they compete in the Portage Northern Huskie Invitational.
