COA events keep community active

The Cass County COA has planned a number of activities for next week at its Dowagiac location, Front Street Crossing, at 227 S. Front St.

 

Monday, Sept. 12

Cardio challenge

8 to 8:45 a.m.

This low-impact, high-energy class will challenge participants’ entire bodies with cardio, strength training and balance exercises. Mat exercises are also incorporated for a well-rounded workout. Cost is $25 per month or $5 for walk-ins.

 

Pilates/Stretching

9 to 9:45 a.m.

Participants will build up core and body strength with Pilates, then use the warmth of the muscles to help achieve greater flexibility through a variety of stretches. Instructed by Susan McGrew.

 

S.E.A.T. (Sit, Exercise, and Tone)

10 to 10:45 a.m.

This chair-based class is great for anyone concerned with balance and stability. The focus is on maintaining flexibility and strength. Cost is $25 per month or $5 for walk-ins.

 

Tai chi

11 a.m.

Guests can improve their posture, strength of hips, thighs and core with this gentle mind body exercise. This program is good for arthritis, blood pressure and sense of well-being. Cost is $20 per month.

 

Bingo

12:45 p.m.

Follow the lunch hour by playing for fun and prizes. Cost is $2.25.

 

Champagne Flutes

1:30 p.m.

People who used to play the flute are get the instrument out of their attics and join the new Champagne Flutes forming at Front Street Crossing. The group meets on Mondays and will practice for playing at nursing homes and other venues. For more information, people should call 445-8110 and ask for Connie.

 

Tuesday, Sept. 13

Glass Map Pendants

1 to 3 p.m.

Participants will turn a map of a special town or city into a beautiful pendant to wear close to their hearts. After that they will make a necklace for the pendant out of chain, ribbon, beads, etc.

Space is very limited for the program. People are asked to specify a Michigan map or Indiana map when registering (any other state map must be provided by participants). A $10 fee includes pendant and necklace supplies; only 1 pendant per participant.

 

Wednesday, Sept. 14

Computer support

8 a.m. to noon

Help is available for those struggling with computer-related problems. By appointment only.

Euchre is one of the most popular card clubs.

FSC Musicians
