Snowmobile club to meet

NILES — The Four Flags Snowmobile Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, in the lower level of the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce building Chamber at 321 Main St., in Niles. New members or volunteers are welcome and needed to help keep the trails going.

Niles church to host free health screenings

NILES — Michiana Ghanaian S.D.A. Church is hosting free health screenings and giveaways throughout the month of September at the church, which is located at 2624 N. 5th St., in Niles.

The events will take place Sept. 9, 10, 13, 16 and 17 throughout the day.

 

Post offices to close for Labor Day holiday

NILES — The Niles and Buchanan Post Offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of Labor Day, which is a federal holiday.

There will be no mail delivery or retail service on this day. However, customers can drop their mail in blue street collection boxes, so they can be processed early the next day.

“We advised anyone with stamped or metered mail ready for delivery to deposit it early in the day into a blue collection box,” said Sabrina Todd, media and communications spokesperson for the Greater Michigan District Postal Service. “This also applies to business customers that are open during the holiday.” Residents can also call their local post office to obtain hours of operation information.

Post Offices will reopen for business on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

 

Specialist to discuss importance of trees

STEVENSVILLE — The Berrien Conservation District is hosting an informational tree presentation from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Lincoln Township Public Library, 2099 W. John Beers Road, Stevensville.

Dr. David L. Roberts, Senior Academic Specialist at Michigan State University will discuss trees in community landscapes and society along with diseases and insects that threaten tree health.

Seating is limited to the first 75 guests.

It is sponsored by The Berrien Conservation District, ReLeaf Michigan, and The DNR-Urban & Community Forestry Program.

Chronic Pain workshop comes to Berrien County

BERRIEN COUNTY — The Region IV Area Agency on Aging will offer a free workshop about dealing with chronic pain at the Area Agency on Aging building in St. Joseph beginning Sept 20.

The program, “Chronic Pain PATH,” is a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program that was developed and tested by Stanford University.

The workshop is a six-week program that teaches practical skills for living a healthy life with chronic pain. The focus is on self-care, learning new coping strategies and sharing personal experiences.

Some of the things participants will learn are how to: exercise to maintain and improve strength, flexibility and endurance; overcome stress and relax; and pace activity and rest.

Classes are scheduled to meet each Tuesday at the Area Agency on Aging, which is located at 2900 Lakeview Ave., in St. Joseph. Classes will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 20 to Oct. 25.

Family members, friends and caregivers are also encouraged to attend. The class size is limited and pre-registration is required.
