This Sept. 11 marks the 15th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center. To remember those who lost their lives in the tragedy and to raise money for the Red Cross, the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2441 and the Berrien County Riders will host a Ride to Remember motorcycle run in Dowagiac 1 p.m. on Sept. 11.

The ride starts at the Berrien County Courthouse, 811 Port St., St. Joseph and ends at the Eagles Club, 101 E Railroad St., Dowagiac.

Trustee at the Eagles, Bob Ottinger said that in the past several years that they have hosted the event, more motorcyclists have fired up their bikes to participate and help what Ottinger said is a very worthy cause.

“Proceeds go to a good cause. The Red Cross was there at ground zero when this happened (attack on the World Trade Center),” Ottinger said. “And they helped all the families.”

Riders register for the event and the cost for participation benefits the Red Cross. A ceremony will be held after the ride, where the Eagles and the Berrien County Riders will present the check to the Red Cross.

Eagles member Bill Richardson said it is exciting to see the hundreds of motorcycles bursting down the streets. The past couple of years he’s seen between 150 to nearly 300 bikes in the run.

“People who attend can expect a thrill of seeing all those motorcycles come roaring into town,” Richardson said.

This year, Richardson said they are hoping for even more participation.

After the run, a ceremony followed by a moment of silence will honor those whose lives were lost from being forgotten.
