The Dowagiac volleyball team overcame mistakes to claim its own quad tournament championship Wednesday.

The Chieftains got off to a fast start by beating Hartford 25-15 and 25-10, but had a letdown against Michigan Lutheran, losing to the Titans 25-23 and 25-18.

Dowagiac (4-3) rebounded to win the championship after beating Bridgman 25-16, 13-25 and 15-3.

“We started off strong and then we began to get deflated after a few mistakes,” Dowagiac coach Rachel Zeider said. “The girls were able to learn from their mistakes and play smart to execute the plays. We are still working on the chemistry on and off the court but they all have amazing potential and every day is a learning experience for us.”

Taylor Hulett led the Chieftains with 11 kills, 11 aces, seven digs and two blocks.

Kelsey Crocker finished with nine kills, 12 digs, two aces, 12 digs and an assist, while Kenzie Cross had eight kills and two digs.
