The United Way of Southwest Michigan has been hard at work preparing area children to head back to school.

The organization hosted a School Supply Spectacular events Saturday and Wednesday at Brookside Learning Center in Cassopolis, and will host a similar event today at Marcellus United Methodist Church in Marcellus.

People lined up to receive backpacks filled with age appropriate school supplies, which were handed out on a first-come, first-served basis to low-income families in Cass County.

The first 360 families in line for the event at Brookside Learning Center were also served food by the Feeding America Mobile Food Pantry Truck.
