Several employees from the Lowe’s home improvement store in Niles volunteered to improve the appearance of Island Park in Niles Monday as part of the Lowe’s Heroes program. Over the next several days, Lowe’s volunteers will be at the park painting slides, picking up debris and installing new items, like picnic tables.

The store is devoting $2,500 worth of work to the project, which is expected to be finished by the end of this week, weather depending. From left to right are: Andrew Williams, George Grenon, Shalanda McDaniel, Tad and Cal Germann, Ariel Berry, Yotis A. Moffitt, Sabrina Wolfe and Mark Conrad.

Lowe’s Heroes focuses giving efforts to K-12 public/charter education and community improvement projects. Lowe’s Heroes is a volunteer program in which employees adopt a project with a local nonprofit organization to help improve the communities where they work and live. Lowe’s Heroes has been in place since the late 1990s. Each store team will have $2,500 to fund materials needed for its community project.
