Michigan City, St. Joseph win Viking Stampede titles

With the cooperation of the weatherman, the Niles cross country teams showed off their new home course at Madeline Bertand Park Friday.

Michigan City and St. Joseph won the boys and girls titles respectively at the Viking Stampede.

Niles finished third in the girls race and fourth in the boys race.

Bryon Berg led Michigan City to the title with a first place individual effort. He set the new course record with a time of 16:46.7.

Teammates Jacob Adams, Noah Scheft and Louka Karrallas all finished in the top 10 as Michigan City posted a team score of 37 points.

The Bears were second with 63 and Plainwell third with 67. Niles finished with 105 points.

Plainwell’s Makenna Veen won the girls individual championship with a time of 19:24.3, but it was the St. Joe Bears earning the team title with 31 points compared to 54 points for the Trojans.

The Vikings, led by Taylor Altergott’s sixth place finish (22:36.2) finished with 78 points.
