The fall sports season will get under way for Dowagiac Monday as the golf and soccer teams open up their 2016 campaigns.

The golf team will compete in a pair of Wolverine Conference jamborees.

South Haven will host the first jamboree at 8:30 a.m. at Hawkshead Golf Course, while Allegan will host the second jamboree at 1 p.m. at Cheshire Hills.

“We are excited to get started,” Dowagiac golf coach Bob Turner said. “We are looking to move up in the standings again this year and get into the top half and then build on that.

“It will be good for the new girls to get a match in and get over the nerves and then settle in for the conference schedule.

The Chieftain soccer team is set to host to Bangor at 5 p.m. Monday.

Dowagiac will open up its volleyball scheduled by hosting a quad beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The Chieftain soccer team will be back in action as it hosts Buchanan at 5 p.m.

Football season gets under way Thursday night as the Chieftains host Vicksburg in a key Wolverine Conference clash.

Kickoff at Chris Taylor-Alumni Field is slated for 7 p.m.

The week will wrap up with the soccer team hosting the annual Chieftain Invitational.

Dowagiac will play Cassopolis at 10 a.m. The Rangers will then take on Hartford before the Chieftains and Indians wrap up the day.

The team with the best record will be declared the champion.

“We look pretty good right now,” veteran Dowagiac soccer coach Mike Williams said of his team. “We are just not deep. We do not have a lot of subs because we have a JV team. We are about where we were last year. We have a good group of kids with a lot of experience.

“I think it is going to be a pretty good year.”
