DOWAGIAC — Secretary of State Ruth Johnson announced today that the Secretary of State office at 601 N. Front St., Suite C, in Dowagiac will be closed from Aug. 22-26 for a remodeling project that will bring new improvements.

The department said customers and staff would benefit from renovations, which include a new customer-friendly counter design, new data lines to speed transactions, new carpet and new furniture.

The office is expected to reopen at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29.

“The features that this remodeling project will bring are part of our commitment to continuously improving and providing convenient customer service while being efficient with taxpayer dollars,” Johnson said. “Area residents now can do many transactions with us by hopping online at ExpressSOS.com but when they do visit, they can enjoy the benefits of an updated Dowagiac office.”

ExpressSOS.com offers an online alternative for renewing license plates, driver’s licenses and state ID cards.

Online license plate renewal allows customers to “print-n-go” by printing a copy of their new registration to use until their tabs arrive in the mail. Easy-to-follow instructions can be found with the renewal notice.

Additional services can be done online as well.
