Despite dip in attendance, Cass County Fair a success

Too many times we hear that there is “nothing to do.”

That rings a bit hollow when we find out that attendance at last week’s Cass County Fair dipped from its 2015 numbers.

We understand that it got hot and humid as the week went along, but still find it hard to believe that nearly 3,000 fewer people attended the fair.

There were plenty of fun things to do at the fair. The demolition derby on Thursday night continues to be a huge draw for the fair.

It was once again a sellout.

Tuesday and Friday led the way in attendance with more than 15,000 people attending those days.

We are also disheartened by the fact that the livestock auction numbers were down as well.

But despite that fact, the number of animals entered in the fair continues to go up.

Those who show their animals at the fair count on having people come out and purchase the livestock. It allows them to continue showing at the fair.

We are hopeful that the numbers will rebound during the 2017 edition of the fair.

It takes hundreds of volunteers to make the fair run smoothly, from superintendents of the different 4-H animal shows to the people who help make the grandstand events come off without a hitch.

We commend everyone who had a hand in the 2016 Cass County Fair and are already looking forward to next summer.
