Construction not stopping upcoming production at Beckwith Theatre

There is an old theater adage, “The show much go on!”
As director of the next Beckwith Theatre play, I have been asked by several people if, with all the construction around our building, we are still having our next play, “Over the River and Through the Woods.”
The answer is an emphatic, “yes!”
The construction crews have made every effort to make access to the theater possible. Every weekend, they leave a clear path to the Beckwith.
Dowagiac District Library, Huntington Bank, and the City of Dowagiac have also made their parking lots available for our performances.
Because of this construction, it is more important than ever for the people of our community and the surrounding communities to come out in support of the Beckwith. Each show in a Beckwith season represents one-sixth of the operating income for the next year.
Financial support is needed, but so is audience support. The fine actors who make up this cast need an audience; that is the reason they have worked so hard for the past six weeks.
Besides, this is a terrific play. Very funny, very true and very poignant.
I guarantee that the effort to get to the theater will be worth it.
Also, on opening night (Aug. 19) we will have a wine tasting hosted by Domaine Berrien Cellars. The following Friday will feature a beer tasting supplied by Sister Lakes Brewing Company.
In addition, there will be a reading of “Glengarry Glen Ross” at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 24. This is a joint effort of the Beckwith Theatre and The South Bend Civic Theatre.
The reading is free. The reading is a preview of a play under consideration for the 2017 season.
Please join us and support public theater in Dowagiac by making reservations for “Over the River and Through the Woods” by calling us at (269) 782-7653.
