Boudreau, Foley win Steve’s Run 10K titles

Hannah Boudreau of Hampstead, Maryland has been visiting relatives in the area and decided to take part in 42nd annual Steve’s Run Saturday.

The Bloomsburg University (Pennsylvania) junior was glad she did after cruising to the 10K run overall title with a time of 41:11.

Danielle Kennedy was second with a 42:37 and Faith Quitana third with a 44:57.

“My aunt lives here in Michigan so I was coming up for the week to visit and they told me about the race,” Boudreau said. “They asked me if I wanted to sign up for the 10K. I run for my college Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania, so I thought it would be a run race to do this summer.”

Boudreau felt that parts of the course were hard, but she enjoyed running on it.

“Parts of it were hard,” She said. “I think the way it was laid out with the trails at the end was the hardest part of it.”

Gannon Foley, a senior at Portage Central, also had an easy time in winning the men’s 10K crown.

He posted a time of 35:40, while runner-up Andrew Smenyak finished with a 36:04. Michael Callison finished third with a 38:04.

“I was a little surprised by it,” Foley said of the course. “I wasn’t expecting as many hills as there were and with it raining last night the golf course was a little wet. But overall, it was a solid course. I liked it.”

Foley also said the atmosphere was also a lot different.

“It had kind of a party feel and I liked it,” he said. “There were a lot of people running here who were having fun. The bouncy house and the kids activities area was a nice touch.”

David Jones won the men’s 5K run with a time of 16:43, while Alex Comerford was second with a 16:51 and Lewis Tate third with a 17:06.

Sarah Cullip was the women’s 5K winner with a time of 20:10. Rachel Bendewald was second at 20:10 and Sarah Saylor third at 22:27.

A total of 539 runners and walkers participated in Saturday’s race.
