Fifth Third Banks donates $7,000 to Steve’s Run

Fifth Third Bank, premier sponsor of the 42nd Steve’s Run Saturday morning at Southwestern Michigan College, donated $7,000 Tuesday.
Race co-directors Kate Dorner, SMC human relations director, and Tom Atkinson, SMC chief of staff, received the donation from bank representatives Randy Reimers, community president, Bea Jones, Dowagiac financial center manager Bea Jones and Ashton Vanantwerp, investments.
A 10K run, 5K walk/run and one-mile fun run benefit the Steven Briegel Scholarship Fund and Mayo Clinic’s Cancer Research Fund.
Steve’s Run starts at 8:30 a.m. in front of the David C. Briegel Building on the college’s Dowagiac campus. Breast cancer survivor and former Edwardsburg resident Jamie Kastelic of St. Joseph will speak at the awards ceremony about 10 a.m. in SMC’s Alumni Plaza.
Late registration is today and race day.
Cost is $30 for the 5K run and walk, as well as the 10K run. The one-mile fun run is still $1.
The award ceremony will immediately follow the remarks by Kastelic.
Awards will be provided to the overall male and female winners of the 10K and 5K runs. The top 10K and 5K run male and female winners in each age group will also be recogonized.
There are a total of 16 ages groups for both male and female participants beginning at 10 and under through 80 and above.
