Registration is currently under way for the 2016 Eagle Lake Triathlon at Eagle Lake Marine in Edwardsburg Aug. 6.

There will be three separate triathlons: the long sprint, the short sprint, and the kid’s triathlon.

The long sprint begins with an 800-yard swim, 400 yards out and 400 yards back, in Eagle Lake. The swim is followed immediately by a 17.2-mile bike ride that goes east on US-12 to M-62 North, circles back west on Monette Street, south on Cassopolis Road, then east again back to Eagle Lake on US-12. Following the bike ride is a 5.3-mile run around the circumference of Eagle Lake.

Following the beginning of the long sprint, the short sprint will kick off.

The short sprint includes a 200-yard swim, 6.9-mile bike ride and 1.4-mile run.

Following the short sprint is the kids triathlon, which includes a 25-yard swim, 3/4-mile bike ride and half-mile run.

“The 2016 Eagle Lake Triathlon has a race for every level of triathlete,” president of Life Treatment Center said. “This year we are offering a long sprint and short sprint triathlon that accommodates those looking to do their first triathlon or the experienced triathlete looking for a great mid-summer event. We also have a non-competitive and competitive kid’s triathlon for ages 6 to 11.

“All proceeds from the race go to benefit Life Treatment Centers based in South Bend to aid in their mission of helping those suffering from  drug and alcohol addiction.”

The long sprint triathlon is $70 per individual and $100 per team. The short sprint triathlon is $60 and $90 respectively, while the kids triathlon is $25 (non-competitive) and $35 (competitive).

Cost is subject to processing fees and does not include the USAT one-day membership fee.
