The bar has been set pretty high for the second Run Eddie Run 5K race July 23.

According to Karen Harris of the Edwardsburg Fire Department Auxiliary, the inaugural run surpassed everyone’s expectations.

The first one exceeded all of our goals,” Harris said. “It exceeded the number of runners, exceeded the number of sponsors and exceeded the amount of money we made. It broke all of our goals and we are hoping this year does the same.”

Run Eddie Run is a fundraiser for both the auxiliary and the Edwardsburg Public Schools Foundation.

The Edwardsburg Public Schools Foundation provides scholarships to graduating seniors and teacher grants for special projects and field trips. The Edwardsburg Fire Auxiliary supports the volunteer firefighters of the Edwardsburg Fire Department both on fire scenes and through fundraising efforts.

The race will start and finish at Leo Hoffman Stadium (football field) at Edwardsburg High School with a course that runs through the village.

Deadline for online registration is 11:59 p.m. July 20. The cost is $20 per person. Those who do not wish to register online can do so by picking up paper registration forms at the Edwardsburg Public Schools Administration building on U.S. Highway 12 or during the Friday night packet pick-up. The cost to register after July 20 is $25.

Packet pick-up will be from 5 to 7 p.m. July 22 at the football field concession stand. Packets may also be picked up the morning of the race beginning at 7 a.m.

Parking is available in front of the high school, middle school, and in the student parking lot south of the high school. Age group awards presentations will immediately follow the race.

Yamafit from Adamsville will conduct a warm-up. Healthy snacks and water will be provided during the race and the Edwardsburg Ambulance will the on-site.

Harris, who understands the challenge of making the second year at least as big, if not bigger, said that the run has already exceeded last year’s sponsors and sponsors dollars.

“Runners are still working on,” she said. “But we still have nine days. It seems like a bulk of the runners signed up in the last week. I think we will see that again this year.”

Among the activities surrounding the run is Kona Ice, which will be selling shaved ice. The Edwardsburg Fire Department will have firehouse Dalmatian Desi available for photos.

This year’s race T-shirt was designed by Edwardsburg artist and runner Dennis Anderson.

Brock Eaves and Angie Wilfert were the inaugural winners of the Run Eddie Run 5K. Eaves was an incoming freshman at Edwardsburg, while Wilfert is a 2007 Edwardsburg graduate.
