Niles Burn Run returns for 15th year

One of the summer’s most popular events is about to roll off this weekend.

The Niles Burn Run, a 70-mile motorcycle ride to raise funds for young burn victims, is scheduled to begin at noon Sunday in downtown Niles. Prior to the ride, Burn Run organizers are offering a variety of other activities Friday and Saturday at Riverfront Park, including live music in the amphitheater and a car/bike show.

All of the fun is designed to get people to donate money so that children can attend the Great Lakes Burn Camp in Jackson, Michigan. The burn camp promotes healing, self-esteem and confidence in children who have been burned.

Jodi Curran, vice president of the Niles Burn Run, said the organization has raised well over $100,000 since starting the ride 15 years ago. Hundreds of motorcyclists come from all over Michigan to participate in the police-escorted ride through beautiful southwest Michigan.

“We want people to come out, have fun and help us celebrate 15 years by beating last year’s donation amount,” Jodi said.

The organization donated approximately $15,000 to the Burn Camp last year.

All of the events will take place in Riverfront Park, but the bike ride will still travel east on Main Street through downtown.
