The Dowagiac softball team has earned Division 2 Academic All-State from the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association.

Senior Mickie Kiggins was also named individual academic all-state by the MHSSCA.

All 10 members of the Dowagiac varsity softball team were on the honor roll with eight earning high honors with GPAs ranging from 3.4 to 3.99. Two had a perfect 4.0.

Kiggins’ GPA was 3.94.

“Mickie worked hard this past off season in the weight room and it paid off,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “She had her best season at the plate and really came through with some big hits in clutch situations.

Kiggins hit .444 for the Chieftains this season with six doubles, two triples and the only home run of her career.
