Niles’ Huffman, Brandywine’s Janowiak earn first team all-state

A trio of area first basemen have been selected by the Michigan Baseball Coaches Association’s all-state teams, which were announced Monday.

Niles’ Jakob Huffman was selected in Division 2, Brandywine’s Hunter Janowiak in Division 3 and Lake Michigan Catholic’s Ryan Stachowski in Division 4.

St. Joseph outfield Jordan Brewer was a second team pick in Division 2.

Huffman hit .414 for the Vikings this season with six doubles, two triples and 27 RBIs.

Janowiak hit .415 for the Bobcats in 2016 with 11 doubles, a home run and 28 RBIs.

He was also named Division 3 All-Academic for the second straight year after posting a GPA of 4.0 as a senior.
