A huge thank-you to Mike Petersen

When one thinks of music in Dowagiac Schools, we automatically think of Mike Petersen.

Mike retired from Dowagiac Union Schools at the school year. His position in the district had been that of assistant band director.

Students and staff will both say that he was a huge part of the band program.

Mike has years of experience in teaching music. He brought excitement to the students about learning and his love of music is evident.

Mr. Petersen previously retired from teaching, but we were happy that he returned to continue his fine work with us. He taught more than 40 years, with music as his passion. Previously in the district he served as the choir director.

His wife, also an educator, retired from Sister Lakes Elementary. They have two sons and three grandchildren.

Mike shared that he is excited about retirement and he and his wife are looking forward to traveling, visiting family and friends, and he does love to play cards.

Mr. Petersen will be missed. Dowagiac Union Schools, the music department, and the students will miss his wealth of knowledge, his love of music, and his passion for teaching.

Thank you Mr. Petersen for everything!
