BRIDGMAN — A five-run seventh inning sent the Buchanan baseball team to the sidelines Saturday.

Grand Rapids West Catholic 6-1 eliminated the Bucks, who played in the Division 3 state championship game in 2015, from the state tournament in the regional semifinals at Bridgman.

Schoolcraft 7-0 would blank West Catholic in the championship game.

Gaetanto Vallone held the Bucks (20-9) to just one hit.

The two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the seventh inning.

Back-to-back singles to lead off the inning and an error by Buchanan set up Vallone, who lifted a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run.

A single and another error allowed the Falcons to add three more runs.

Buchanan went down in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Zander Jacobson, John Corey and Chris Markules all had two hits for West Catholic.

Chad Adkerson had the lone hit for the Bucks.
