Edwardsburg dominates all-district softball team

District champion Edwardsburg dominated the All-District team, which was selected Monday.

The Eddies placed seven players and coach Randy Brooks on the team, which is selected by the district coaches.

Moving on in the all-state process for Edwardsburg are Kailee Claire (outfield), Michaela Ritschard (shortstop), Savannah Dixon (second base), Layne Stinnett (third base), Kaylee Ryker (catcher), Ali Strycker (pitcher) and Hannah Shoupe (designated player).

Claire hit .453 with 10 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 17 RBIs before suffering a season-ending injury.

Ritschard hit .358 with five doubles, two triples a home run and 29 RBIs, while Dixon hit .395 with 10 doubles, a triple and 26 RBIs.

Stinnett hit .583 with 12 doubles, a school record 12 home run and 56 RBIs. Ryker hit .321 with nine doubles and 25 RBIs.

Strycker was 18-3 with an ERA of 1.065 with 141 strikeouts and 30 walks.

Shoupe hit .426 with 12 doubles and 31 RBIs.

Dowagiac had five players selected.

Marissa Dodd (outfield), Mickie Kiggins (first base), Taylor Hulett (pitcher), Megan Soderbloom (utility player) and Amiyah Smith (at-large) are now all eligible for all-region consideration.

Dodd hit .450 for the Chieftains and scored 51 runs, while Kiggins hit .492 with 34 RBIs.

Hulett was 20-6 with an ERA of 1.703 with 180 strikeouts.

Soderbloom hit .531 with a school record eight home runs and 53 RBIs. Smith hit .496 with 51 runs scored.

Niles had just one player, Brooke Timm, named to the team. She was selected as an at-large player. Timm hit .431 with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 12 RBIs.

Brooks, who surpassed the 700 wins plateau this season, was named Coach of the Year. Dowagiac received the sportsmanship trophy.
