FENNVILLE — The Dowagiac soccer team came up just short of advancing to the Division 3 district championship match Thursday.

The Chieftains (3-15-2) were edged by host Fennville 1-0 in a match that remained scoreless through the first 74 minutes of play.

Fennville finally scored the winning goal in the 75th minute to beat Dowagiac 1-0.

Dowagiac’s Grace Younger stopped 11 shots and finished the season with a school record 254 saves.

“Without a doubt the best game we played all year,” Dowagiac coach Ryan Haines said. “This year we definitely grew as a team. We were just on the opposite end of the result.  I’m happy for these girls.”
