BENTON HARBOR — Some of the best golfers in the world took on Harbor Shores this past weekend in the 77th Sr. PGA Championship.

Along side one of them was former Niles standout Chris Noble.

Noble, who was in town for a week, contacted Ebon Sanders, who runs the First Tee program at Harbor Shores to see if anyone needed a caddy.

Noble was paired with South Africa’s Chris Williams, who finished tied for 39th after shooting minus-2 for the tournament.

Noble, who now lives in Tampa, Florida, works for Quality Dining.

Noble earned all-state honors while at Niles and went on to play collegiately at Holy Cross in Notre Dame, Indiana.

“Basically I came to town for Memorial Day, so I was just in town for a week,” Noble said following Friday’s second round. “I sent an email to Ebon Sanders and said if you need any caddies keep me in mind. He sent me an email and I got hooked up with Chris Williams from Johannesburg, South Africa and it has been a great week so far. It has been a lot of fun.”

Noble said he has enjoyed watching the professionals play.

“These guys are just on a completely different level,” he said. “You think you’ve got game and then you see some of the game’s greatest players and they amaze and wow you with every shot. They are just solid.”

Williams said that Noble has done a good job on the bag through the first two rounds.

“He is a good golfer, so he knows what to do out there,” Williams said of Noble. “He is a local guy, so he knows the course a bit.”
