Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Josh Lamphere

Josh Lamphere is a senior on the Dowagiac golf team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

JL: Having a 3-6 season then everyone works to improve.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

JL: Being injured my last home game of senior year in football.

What has been a hardship in your life?

JL: Dealing with my parent’s divorce in my senior season of football.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

JL: My hero in my life is my mom, because she works hard and preservers.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

JL: Before the first play/hit in football.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

JL: Getting dunked on in eighth grade by a sophomore in high school summer basketball with school team.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

JL: I push myself as hard as I would if people were there with me.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

JL: I would compete in boys volleyball if we had a team.

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

JL: Sports are extremely important because it gives you another support system and you learn values.

How would you give away $50,000?

JL: I would give $50,000 away to my high school athletics so others could have a chance.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

JL: A rocket football team.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

JL: Probably work out and do outdoor activities.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

JL: Keep pushing yourself beyond tolerance of pain so you can get better.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

JL: In golf, I would change the rule that says if you get hit by the ball, you take two strokes.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

JL: I received the coach’s award, which is voted on by all coaches on the team.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

JL: Playing varsity football as a sophomore. Yes, it prepared me for future seasons and made me better.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

JL: My friend Zach Davis getting an and-one against Three Rivers basketball this season.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

JL: Reading books or magazines. I like to be informed about the world events and new ideas.
