Railroad has solution for River Valley Trail problem

Concerning the Indiana-Michigan River Valley Trail, I have written to Mr. Pagel and Donald Trump after trying to negotiate with Norfolk Southern Railroad.

I think we should put pressure on Norfolk Southern Railroad for their strip of land that would be perfect for our use. I suggested that we (Niles Township) invite (with or without money) a representative of the railroad to have a summer vacation to Niles. He or she can see for his or herself Norfolk Southern has the best and cheapest solution to our problem.

I think a lawyer should step forward to help Niles Township (pro bono) to negotiate with Norfolk Southern if there was a reasonable offer. That has been the problem thus far. They are asking way too much money.

My reasons against the plans now in motion: First, the trail is too close to vehicles. There is not enough room. Second, the trail would have to cross driveways and stir up bad feelings with land owners. Third, it would upset the Brandywine Creek Nature Center, To put the trail through a heavily wooded area is not a good idea. The problem of elevation also exists.
