Ronald Edward Utrup, 66, died peacefully April 9, 2016, at his residence in Dade City, Florida. Ron was born in Dowagiac, Michigan on Aug. 9, 1949, to Arthur and Mildred Utrup.

Ron grew up on a farm in Sister Lakes, Michigan, and graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1967. He attended the University of Michigan and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. He received a Masters degree in Blind Rehabilitation from Western Michigan University in 1978. He worked as a blind rehabilitation teacher and supervisor for the Veterans Administration in California, Washington and Arizona. He served in that capacity for many years until his retirement. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Ron was a very kind and thoughtful person. He loved old books, old movies, reading and understanding the Bible and had a keen interest in American History. He was a wonderful son and brother who was devoted to his family. He will be greatly missed.

His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his brothers: Fred (Mary) Mitchell of Auburn, Washington, William (Jean) Mitchell of Niles, James (Judy) Utrup of Dade City, Florida, Robert (Shellie) Utrup of Lansing, David (Shirley) Utrup of Newaygo, Michigan, a sister, Mary (Robert) Shane of Kalamazoo and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a burial service will be held at the Florida National Military Cemetery near Bushnell, Florida. Mass will be held at 9 a.m., May 26 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Silver Creek.
