The Edwardsburg girls basketball program is banking on its underclassmen to help turn the program around.

Leading the charge is guard Kaitlyn Zarycki, who scored 10 points Tuesday night in a 62-43 loss to Class B powerhouse Lakeshore.

First-year coach Jon Pobuda is pleased with the progression of his squad.

“We have a young group who is working hard every day and we are making strides,” he said following a 55-15 win over Dowagiac Jan. 8. “We are improving, which is what you always want to do. Hopefully we will continue to improve because we do not want to be peaking right now.”

“It is really fun playing with the older players because they give me confidence,” Zarycki said after scoring eight points against the Chieftains. “I was really nervous as the beginning of the year. I have become a lot more comfortable with everything.”

The Eddies were outscored 33-20 in the second half of their non-conference game against host Lakeshore Tuesday night.

The Lancers turned a 29-23 halftime advantage into a 62-43 victory over the Eddies.

Lakeshore scored 16 points in the final eight minutes, while holding Edwardsburg to seven points to pull away with the easy victory.

Morgan Kaiser had a game-high 22 points for the Lancers, who also got 14 points from Sarah Dubbert 14.

Savannah Dixon led the Eddies with 14 points and Kaitlyn Zarycki added 10.
