Vikings fall to St. Joseph

ST. JOSEPH — Niles lost more than just a girls basketball game Friday night.
Senior point guard Elyse Zimmeman had her legs cut out from under her while trying to grab a rebound and suffered a possible dislocated shoulder in the Vikings’ 56-41 loss to St. Joseph.
Niles trailed just 12-9 after one quarter, which is when Zimmerman when down with her injury. She will have an MRI on her should Monday.
The Bears outscored the Vikings 17-7 9 in the second quarter to open up a 29-16 halftime advantage in the SMAC West Division clash.
St. Joseph (8-1, 4-1 SMAC West) would led 44-26 heading to the fourth quarter.
Niles (5-4, 2-3 SMAC West) made a run at the Bears, cutting the lead to eight points, but would get no closer.
Emily Gaines and Jazmin Brann both scored 11 points to lead the Vikings, who also got eight points from Maya Brookins.
Kately Algyre led St. Joseph and all scorers with 15 points. Anna Fischer added 14 and Lydnsey White 10.
