James Harrell is a senior on the Brandywine cross country team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
JH: Making state this year.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
JH: Just missing out on going to state both my sophomore and junior years.
What has been a hardship in your life?
JH: I ran a marathon.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
JH: My grandma, Sara Harrell, for being the strongest person I know.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
JH: On the start line before the gun goes off.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
JH:: I threw up after a casual 5K.
How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?
JH: Go out and run.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
JH: Race walking.
Who would you say is your “biggest fan?” Why?
JH: Vinny Peel because he told me he is.
How would you give away $50,000?
JH: A scholarship for runners.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
JH: Any cross country team.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
JH: Have much more free time.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
JH: Train competitively on my own.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
JH: The rule of how late someone can join the team.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
JH: Someone once told me I was a good runner.
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
JH: Speak in front of a group. No.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
JH: I saw someone run really fast.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
JH: Running recreationally. It relaxes me.
