Athlete Showcase: Lexi Smith

Lexi Smith is a junior on the Niles volleyball team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
LS: Making a varsity team as a freshman.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
LS: I haven’t had any disappointments as an athlete.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
LS: The heroes in my life would probably be my parents. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
LS: I get the most nervous when are playing bigger or ranked teams.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
LS: An embarrassing moment would have to be going to roll the ball and the ball not going over the net.
How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?
LS: I usually don’t work out alone, but when I do, I am usually focused and on task for the most part.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
LS: If I didn’t play volleyball, I would like to play softball.
Who would you say is your “biggest fan?” Why?
LS: My biggest fan/fans would have to be my grandma and grandpa Purucker. They come to everything of mine and support me through anything that happens.
How would you give away $50,000?
LS: I would give $50,000 away to the homeless shelters because I would like to give them all the support I can to help.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
LS: I would like to coach Notre Dame. I think it would be so cool to coach at a university.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
LS: I did not play sports I would spend all of my time outdoors either hunting or fishing.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
LS: The most challenging thing for me would be hitting around the block.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
LS: I would change the going under the net rule.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
LS: The best compliment I have received would be that I can play volleyball in college. I have doubted myself in being able to play for a college, but when people say I can do it, it makes me work harder to achieve that goal.
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
LS: The scariest thing I have ever had to do was put my hand down a garbage disposal when I dropped something down it. I have always been afraid it will turn on. I am not glad I did it. I don’t think it was worth it.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
LS: The last thing that impressed me was a kid paid for the lady that was behind him in line. That impressed me because teenagers usually wouldn’t do that.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
LS: I love hunting and fishing. I think that it is relaxing and so much fun.

LS: Determined.
