Trick-or-treat times, activities for Halloween weekend

If you missed Niles’ downtown trick or treat event last weekend, shown here, don’t fret. There are plenty of activities this weekend for the whole family to enjoy in Niles and Buchanan.
A lot is happening this Halloween weekend in the Niles and Buchanan communities.
Whether people are looking for a good scare, a large haul of candy or a big dose of family fun, there is something for everyone.
Here’s a list of fall-related activities in the area:
Friday, Oct. 30
• 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. — Harvest Extravaganza
This event will take place at Summit Church, 1700 W. River Rd., in Niles. Come dressed in a non-scary costume and get ready to enjoy free food, inflatables, trunk-or-treat, black light show, candy and more.
• 7 to 11 p.m. — Niles Scream Park
This event will take place at the Niles Scream Park, 855 Mayflower Rd., Niles. Come get scared at the area’s most famous haunted attraction.
Saturday, Oct. 31
• 9 a.m. — Donuts and cider
Enjoy breakfast and cider at the Redbud City Center, 131 N. Oak St., in Buchanan.
• 10 a.m. — Buchanan Halloween parade
The parade leaves the Redbud City Center and travels to the Moose Lodge for a costume contest, candy, food and prizes.
• 12:30 to 2 p.m. — Trek or Treat
Gather at McCoy Creek Trail in downtown Buchanan as costumed children grab as much free candy as they can.
• 4 to 6 p.m. — Trunk or Treat
People can go from vehicle trunk to vehicle trunk to get candy at Portage Prairie United Methodist Church, 2450 Orange Rd. in Niles.
• 5 to 8 p.m. — Family Fun Night
There will be food, games, bounce house, hayrides and plenty of candy at Michiana Christian Embassy, 1922 E. Main St., in Niles.
• 6 to 7:30 p.m. — Door-to-door trick or treat
It’s the official time for children to go door to door for candy in Buchanan, Niles Township and the City of Niles.
• 7 to 11 p.m. — Niles Scream Park
This event will take place at the Niles Scream Park, 855 Mayflower Rd., Niles. Come get scared at the area’s most famous haunted attraction.
