Four teams, two states, one day

Published 11:30 pm Tuesday, September 8, 2015

Call me crazy or just a glutton for punishment, but this Saturday may be the longest day of my career.

Somehow, I let photographer Amelio Rodriguez talk me into covering both the Oregon State at Michigan and the Oregon at Michigan State games Saturday.

That’s right, four teams from two states competing on one day that will mean more than 380 miles of driving.

Now I love college football, but by the time this is all said and done I may not feel quite the same way.

Heck, who am I kidding, I will still love college football.

Now this entire idea hinged on two things — the good people at the University of Michigan and Michigan State University granting us credentials to cover the games.

Those answers came through about a week ago and I would like to thank both universities for that.

Once I agreed to do this, I had to figure out a way to turn it into something special.

Of course there will be the obligatory column next Tuesday, but I wanted something more.

So after sitting around and thinking about it a bit while I waited to hear about credentials, I hatched a plan that would make this a multimedia event that everyone can follow along.

So early Saturday morning I will begin posting video updates from our trip to Ann Arbor and then East Lansing.

You will get a look into what covering a college football game entails. Things like just how early you have to leave to get a good parking space. The traffic flow around the stadiums and what goes on in the press box hours before kickoff and maybe we will even hit a tailgate if we can find some local fans.

Throughout the entire day, which I am sure will last well into the early hours of Sunday morning, follow along on Twitter @LPSportsreport and on the Leader Publications Sports Facebook fan page.

If you know of someone who is not following our Twitter or Facebook social media accounts let them know about this and encourage them to sign up.

I will also be posting to our Instagram account at leaderpublications.

I’m sure things could get interesting by the end of the day. You will not want to miss out on a minute.
