Berrien County jail employees under investigation

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday afternoon that it is conducting an internal investigation involving four employees assigned to the jail. At this point, the investigation is being conducted by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau.

A press release from the sheriff’s office said four employees have been placed on administrative leave, with pay, while the investigation continues. Two of the four employees have since resigned.

Up to this point, the investigation has only revealed possible improper conduct while off duty, according to police.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office said in the press release that its employees are held to a high standard and a thorough investigation into these alleged allegations will be completed to assure that any and all misconduct, whether found to be on or off-duty, is dealt with accordingly.

The sheriff’s department said in the release that it would not make any additional comments while the investigation is ongoing.
