CASSOPOLIS — Strained athletic budgets sometimes need a little help.

So on the streets around Sam Adams Elementary Saturday morning, runners took off to help raise money for the Cassopolis cross country and track teams.

Derik Poorman and Julie Allen were the top male and female finishers in the inaugural Ranger Run.

Poorman bested the men’s field with a time of 19:04. Ryan McCaslin was second with a 22:05.

Allen finished with a time of 23:31. Amy Adams was second with a 23:57.

“I thought the race went well for our first time out,” John Adams, the race organizer said. “My expectation was to have about 50 runners and we had 59, so I thought that was very good.

“Our plan is to continue it in the coming years and hold it in conjunction with Cassopolis Sidewalk Days or Pioneer Days at the end of June.”

A total amount raised has not been finalized, but Adams felt it would be close to $3,000.
