BUCHANAN —Buchanan held home court in dominating fashion as it defeated visiting Edwardsburg in a non-conference volleyball match-up on Monday night.

The Bucks defeated the Eddies 25-9, 25-20 and 25-13.

The first set opened up with a 2-2 tie before the Bucks reeled off five straight points to take an early 7-2 lead and never looked back.

Britta Mollberg (junior) served as Buchanan, again, earned five straight points, this time to finish the first match, 25-9.

The Eddies showed signs of life in in the second set as a trio of Edwardsburg seniors — Payton Szlanfuchi, Kaylee Ryker and Abbey Newberry — had good showings and helped propel their squad to a 10-5 lead.

The lead was short lived as the Bucks stampeded back to take the lead 11-8, after a five-point rally. The match stayed tight as the Bucks and Eddies traded points until late in the match.

The final point was scored on a net violation by Edwardsburg and the Bucks took the second set, 25-20.

The close loss may have been too much for Edwardsburg to overcome mentally. The third, and what proved to be the final set, was controlled by Buchanan.

The Eddies served first and scored the match’s first point, but, again, Buchanan answered with a rally of consecutive points, making it 6-1 before Edwardsburg coach Chrissy Breisch called a time out to settle her squad down.

Despite its best efforts, Edwardsburg was never able to bounce back.

The Bucks (6-1) will look to keep their momentum rolling into a weekend tournament at the Kalamazoo Loy Norrix Invitational Saturday.

Up next for Edwardsburg (3-3) is another non-conference battle on the road in Allegan at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
