Two arrested, one at large after Howard Township home invasion

Two young adults are behind bars, and one more is wanted, after an off-duty officer responded to a home invasion in progress.
According to a release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, an off-duty reserve deputy was passing by an acquaintance’s home in the 28000 block of Coulter in Howard Township at approximately 6:10 p.m. Saturday, when he noticed a vehicle parked at the home. The deputy knew the family was out of town and the vehicle did not belong, and confronted three suspects.
According to the release, upon confrontation, the suspects fled from the scene in a vehicle. The deputy followed the vehicle until it crashed on M-60 near Oak Grove in Jefferson Township.
The sheriff’s office said that after crashing the vehicle, the three suspects ran from the vehicle into a wooded area behind a residence.
With the help of nearby agencies, the sheriff’s office was able to locate and arrest two suspects, ages 21 and 17, whose names are being withheld pending arraignment.
The Michigan State Police, Michigan State Police K-9 Unit, Pokagon Tribal Police and Cassopolis Village Police assisted the sheriff’s office with the incident, which remains under investigation.
