Police identify driver who hit pedestrian

Police say they have identified the driver of a vehicle that hit and injured a 16-year-old girl who was walking home Tuesday night in Niles Township.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department is reporting that a 24-year-old woman from Niles was the driver.
The person’s name is being witheld pending arraignment on any potential charges out of the county prosecutor’s office.
According to a Berrien County Sheriff’s Department press release, deputies were dispatched to 1950 S. 13th St. — commonly known as Franklin Woods — on a report of a hit and run accident at 11:18 p.m.
Deputies discovered that a 16-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle while walking to her residence. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of a head wound and injuries to her arms and wrists. She was later released.
The driver of the vehicle initially stopped and began to assist the victim, but then she fled the scene.
