The Edwardsburg Lions Club celebrated two outstanding Lions at the year-end annual steak fry picnic.

Jerry Tavernier was voted Lion of the Year, and Lauren Meier was recognized as the Shining Star of the Year. Leaders say both of these Lion members have dedicated themselves to Lionism and participated in putting many hours into community service and fundraising.

Running from July 1 to July, the Lions meet the first and third Wednesdays every month at the American Legion to discuss the needs of the community and the fundraisers that the club will facilitate.

This year, the Lions Club hosted the circus, a meet and greet for Leos, a membership night, the 50th Annual Christmas Tree Sale, a pancake breakfast, road cleanup, White Cane Days and more.

Lions also built handicap ramps and a new bridge at Crystal Lake Camp, which was finished in time for Camp Leo, a camp for special needs children.

At the picnic, new slate officers were installed as Tanda Stiffler, president, handed over the gavel to Kerry Bathe, who will serve as president this year.

Co-vice presidents are Dave Halgren and Gary Sanders. Keith Loder will serve as secretary and Jim Devenney will serve as treasure.

The co-membership team is made up of Cooky Bailey and Nancy Bowman. Co-chairs for programs are Lauren Meier and Denise Halgren.
