Edwardsburg advances to Wolverine Conference semifinals

Pitching and defense led Edwardsburg to a 4-0 victory over visiting Plainwell in the opening round of the Wolverine Conference Baseball Tournament Tuesday.
The Eddies (15-6) advance to Saturday’s semifinals against South Haven, which defeated Sturgis Tuesday. Edwardsburg will take on the Rams at the Kalamazoo Growlers Stadium.
Joe Raab and Dalton Raymond combined on a six-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Raab worked the first three innings before giving way to Raymond in the fourth.
The Eddies hit the ball well the entire game against Austin Rohr, but had little to show for it until the later innings.
Edwardsburg grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a run-scoring double by Damion Pompey.
The Eddies made it 2-0 with a run in the fifth inning.
Raymond doubled with one out and scored on a double by Derek Pierce.
Edwardsburg added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning.
Zach Plummer led off with a double. Mason Mitchell singled allowing pinch runner Jacob Kanaby to advance to third. Dylan Layher reached on an error by Rohr allowing Kanaby to score the third run.
Pierce drew a bases loaded walk to score Layher with the final run.
Jesse Reinebold and Pierce both had two hits for the Eddies. Plummer and Raymond both doubled.
