Brandywine sweeps Cassopolis

Brandywine, ranked No. 4 in Division 3, tuned up for Tuesday’s showdown with BCS Athletic Conference West Division showdown with arch rival Buchanan with a sweep of Cassopolis Thursday.

The Bobcats defeated the Rangers 13-3 and 4-2 in a non-divisional BCS baseball doubleheader.

The wins improved Brandywine’s record to 16-2 overall.

In the opening game, Chandler Plew earned the victory as he worked the first five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts. Cole Searles pitched the sixth inning for the Bobcats, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Hunter Janowiak was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs for Brandywine, which also got two hits each from Plew, Searles, Ashton Kwieran and Seth Brown. Tanner Bourdon doubled and drove in three runs, while Brown tripled and drove in four runs.

In the nightcap, Joe Covyeou pitched three and two-third innings in earning the victory. He allowed one run on three hits. Searles pitched the final three and a third innings to earn a save. He allowed one run on two hits.

Offensively for the Bobcats, Brown was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.

Thursday’s doubleheader with Cassopolis was dedicated to the American Heart Association.

The Bobcats sold special t-shirts for the game and wore special game shirts.

The team was able to raise $1,120.
