A four-goal second half turned a close match into a rout as visiting Lake Michigan Catholic defeated Cassopolis 5-1 in BCS Athletic Conference West Division soccer Tuesday.

The Rangers trailed just 1-0 at halftime, but could not keep the Lakers off the scoreboard in the final 40 minutes.

Cassopolis averted the shutout when Lotte Pederson scored on a penalty kick.

“The Lakers outhustled us in the midfield and battled fiercely for every loose ball,” Cassopolis coach Oli Olafsson said. “They deserved the win and although some of the goals were very preventable, they were ultimately the product of a team that was better prepared and better conditioned.”
