Police searching for people responsible for shooting buses with pellet gun

The Dowagiac Police Department is currently investigating damage done to two school buses by pellet gun bullets in Dowagiac Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 2:25 p.m., Dowagiac Police received call reporting that a school bus had a window shot out of it. This bus was a Marcellus Public Schools vehicle that was dropping of a student in Dowagiac.

The driver told police that she was travelling west bound on E. Prairie Ronde Street near McOmber Street, when  she heard a “pop” which sounded like a pellet gun. A window on the driver’s side of the bus approximately a third of the way back from the front shattered at that time. The driver said she noticed two white males and one white females taking off running south bound along McOmber Street from East Prairie Ronde Street right after the window shatter.

She was not able to provide any description other than they appeared to be teens, and the female was wearing a pink shirt. There was only one student on the Marcellus bus and no injuries were reported.

While officers began to search the area for the suspects, the department received another call about a Dowagiac Union Schools bus was also struck at approximately the same time. The Dowagiac school bus was travelling east bound on East Prairie Ronde Street in the same area near McOmber Street when a window on the passenger side of the bus approximately half way back from the front was struck by a BB or pellet gun, putting a hole in the window.

The driver reported not seeing anything and was unable to give any descriptions. There were eight students on the Dowagiac bus and no one was injured.

Officers searched the area for anyone matching the descriptions given and were unable to locate anyone.
