The Niles District Library will offer the following free events and activities this week.

The library will be closed the week of April 27 for remodeling.

 

Tuesday, April 7

• 2:30 p.m. — VITA (tax prep assistance) program

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a service available to households that made $52,000 or less in 2014. Call 211 to schedule an appointment. VITA is a partnership between United Way of Southwest Michigan and Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency.

 

Wednesday, April 8

• 9:30 a.m. — Special Edition: Princess Rapunzel from Tangled!

Princess Rapunzel (Michiana Princesses) will read a story and see the craft projects participants are making. Everyone is welcome to join her.

• Multiple times — Storytime day

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., Squigglers (18 months-3 years) at 10 a.m., Storytime at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and Squigglers (3-5 years) at 11 a.m.

 

Thursday, April 9

• 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime

• 1-4 p.m. — Western MahJong

Learn to play this challenging strategy game with a friendly group.

• 4 p.m. — Tween Book Club: Freckle Juice

• 4 p.m. — Teen Craft Night

Join staff for teen game night. Bring a favorite board game, or play one owned by the library.

• 5 p.m. — Gallery Reception with artist Neil Benham

Neil Benham’s wooden bowls are currently on display in the Eleanor and Mowitt Drew Gallery. Come visit with the artist and learn more about this beautiful and fascinating craft.

• 6-8 p.m. — Knitting group

• 6-8 p.m. — IEP Presentation by Michigan Alliance for Families

Learn how to improve the quality of contributions to children’s IEP and how to increase effectiveness at addressing concerns using the IEP process.

 

Friday, April 10

• 1-3 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

Bring yarn or a sewing project and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while chatting with others.

 

Saturday, April 11

• 10 a.m. — Chess Tournament

Entry into this tournament is free for all and only a USCF membership is required. All players have to keep “score” of their games and follow the USCF tournament rules. The time controls will be G/40. For questions, contact the director, Marty Klubeck, at klubeck.1@nd.edu.

• 10:30 a.m. — Toddler Dance Party

• 11 a.m. — Geocaching 101

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then share their experiences online. Come to learn more.

• 1 to 5 p.m. — Game Day for Adults

• 1 p.m. — Jr. Garden Club

• 6 p.m. — Cult Classics Afterhours: Flash Gordon (1980)
